N-ALKANE MIXTURE EFFECT ON SULFUR WETTABILITY

摘要
In the reported experiments, the author measured the wetting contact angle for sulfur-alkane film-air bubble-water system, where alkane film has been binary mixture of n-alkanes. Based on the literature data and measured surface tension of n-alkane mixture the values of wetting contact angle in the system for film pressures equal respectively to spreading, immersion and adhesive work of wetting have been calculated. It has been found maximum thickness of stable alkane film on sulfur surface is reached when film results from adhesional work of wetting. Sulfur with film wetting depends upon thickness and composition of binary alkane film and for very thin films hydrophobic properties of sulfur can deteriorate.
