摘要：
Certain social and political barriers must be overcome before a probability-based bridge specification can be successfully implemented in the United States. These include the practicing engineer's unquestioning faith in the existing unquantified methodologies, the historical precedence of code revision resulting in less safety, the perceived need for jurisdiction prerogative, and the assignment of the responsibility for choosing acceptable reliability levels. © 1990.
