Using TNBS and antibodies, we studied the protein topography at various sites of the membranes, isolated from Rhodopseudomonas palustris cells, strain AB, which were grown at 300 and 30000 lux. It was shown that at the cytoplasmic side of the membrane, the marker was incorporated mainly in the polypeptides of light harvesting complexes and H-subunits of the reaction center independently on light intensity. At the periplasmic side of the membrane, the marker was found in the antenna proteins, in the subunits of the reaction center in lamellae in the cells cultivated at low light intensity, and in the antenna proteins in lamellae in cells cultivated al high light intensity.
