TYROSOL AS AUTOREGULATORY FACTOR D(1) IN THE YEAST SACCHAROMYCES-CEREVISIAE

摘要
Autoregulatory factor d(1), which induces transformation of vegetative cells into refractile resting forms, has been isolated from culture medium of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This bioregulator was identified as 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethane-1-ol (tyrosol). At a concentration of 5 - 15 mu M it stimulated endogenous respiration of producer cells at 20 - 80 mu M respiration was inhibited, and at 200 - 800 mu M transformation of vegetative cells into resting forms was induced. The effect of tyrosol was non-specific: at a concentration of 64 - 86 mu M it inhibited respiration in cells of Escherichia coli and Bacillus cereus.
