Experiments carried out in a 10 t converter on low carbon ferrochromium production are described. The technology developed resulted in the production of ferrochromium containing 0.025-0.09%C, 65.2-48.1% Cr, 18.3-0.047% Si, 0.029-0.036% P, and under 0.003% S. The converter process has a high productivity for ferrochromium production, and experience with stainless steel production suggests that the refractory consumption will be reasonable.
