摘要
Background. Biting of humans by dogs is a common injury in children. Injuries to children are usually located on face. Bite wounds injuries are frequent in children under 5 years of age. Most dog bites to children occur in the home, rarely in a public place. Material and methods. The authors described a case of a child treated for a dog bite. Results. A 16-year-old girl was referred to the Department of Paediatric Surgery and Oncology Medical University of Lodz with left lower leg wound as a consequence of a dog bite. The incident of dog bite occurred at home. Surgical debridement under general anaesthesia was performed. In the postoperative course negative pressure wound therapy was used. Conclusions. Crucial role in reducing the incidents of dog bites is played by children education about how to interact with dogs. The management of bite wounds often requires the involvement of physicians of many specialties.
