摘要
Introduction: In cases of patients with vertical maxillary excess with short or hypermobile lip, orthognathic surgery along with orthodontic treatment is the suggested treatment option. However, orthognathic surgery is associated with increased patient morbidity, and hence a less invasive approach, such as a lip repositioning procedure, is suggested along with orthodontic treatment. Case Presentation: Two patients undergoing orthodontic treatment, with degree I vertical maxillary excess, short and hypermobile lip, and 2 to 4 mm of gingival display on smiling, were recommended for a surgical lip repositioning procedure to reduce the amount of gingival display. The gingival display reduced in both patients, and stable results were obtained 1 year postoperatively. Conclusion: In patients with a gummy smile who are apprehensive of undergoing orthognathic surgery, lip repositioning can be a reassuring treatment option.
