ATTITUDES TOWARD ABORTION IN UNIVERSITY-STUDENTS

The purpose of the present study was to examine attitudes toward abortion among 426 university students (199 males and 227 females) aged 18 to 24 years. Results revealed that the subjects' attitudes toward abortion were slightly unfavorable. Gender comparisions showed that women's attitudes were significantly more negative (p<.01) than men's attitudes. Significant differences (p<.001) were observed between students born in Puebla, Distrito Federal and Veracruz, students from Puebla showed the most negative attitudes. No differences were found between schools nor between Catholic and non Catholic students. It was suggested to investigate relationships between attitudes toward abortion and sexual and contraceptive behavior.
