The kinetics of oxidation of aminoacids with Cr(VI) in aque ous perchloric acid medium has been studied spectrophotometrically. For each aminoacid, the total order of the reaction is two at a given concentration of perchloric acid. Various hypothesis for the mechanism of acid catalysis have been tested and it has been found that the rate is related to the acidity function and also to the concentration of acid. Primary salt effect was also investigated. The energy of activation has been calculated and a mechanism in agreement with the observations is suggested.
