摘要：

Objective: To identify the nurses' actions in care management for the prevention of pressure ulcers (PU) in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Method: Descriptive-exploratory-study with a qualitative approach performed in the ICU of a university hospital in southern Brazil. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with eight nurses and analyzed using content analysis. Results: The main preventive strategies mentioned by the nurses were changing position, daily physical examination of the skin, skin hydration, use of pads, nutritional support, use of mattress and conducting pyramidal massage comfort. Conclusion: Although nurses recognize the importance of such strategies, activity overload, the critical state of patients and the high rate of absenteeism impair often they are implemented in the context investigated.
