A Case of Erythromelalgia Secondary to Neuropathy

Erythromelalgia is a rare disorder which is characterized by episodic attacks of pain, erythema and increased temperature located generally in extremities symmetrically. Pain might be so severe and cause desoriantation in the quality of life, increasing by warming and relieving by cooling. The cases in which there is no underlying disease are known as primary whereas the cases associated with different disaeses are known as secondary erythromelalgia. In this report, a 20 year-old woman with secondary erythromelalgia due to injection neuropathy and vertebral fracture after traffical accident has been presented. The treatment of erythromelalgia is difficult and treatment agents used generally provide slight improvement. We obtained a nearly complete response in our patient with doxazocin mesylate and gabapentin treatment at the end of the three months.
