Case report describes prenatally diagnosed trisomy of 18. chromosome - Edwards syndrome. Prenatal detection of this fetal anomaly was performed on the basis of abnormal sonogram, positive triple test and pathological result of fetal karyotype from amniocentesis. After genetic counselling with notification of the diagnosis the parents decided not to accept theoretical possibility of termination of pregnancy. Clinical aspects of this case are typical and they don't depart from common practice of centres for fetal medicine. What is rare is media presentation not long afterward. Activity of the genetic centre - recommendation for termination of pregnancy in the case of severe fetal anomaly - was ethically called into question in public perception. The case was extensively commented in press and by means of web blogs. Case report summarizes elemental scientific, psychological and ethical connections of this subject.
