DETERMINATION OF TRACE QUANTITIES OF CHLORIDE IN OIL BY ION CHROMATOGRAPHY

An ion chromatographic method for the determination of chloride in oil, based on the oxidative destruction of the matrix in a PARR oxygen bomb, is described. An anion exchange separator column (Dionex AS4A) with 2,5 mmol dm-3 sodium hydroxide solution as eluent in conjunction with membrane suppression conductivity detection was used for chromatography. The method was applied to process oil samples. Detection limits based on a sample mass of 0,5 g was 128-mu-g dm-3 and precision was less than +/- 1% at concentration levels above 1 000-mu-g dm-3.
