Identification of a new strain of the soybean mosaic virus in Brazil

摘要
Soybean seeds from the cultivar FT-10, previously identified as resistant to soybean mosaic virus (SMV) and collected at Goioere county, state of Parana, South Brazil, in 1994, showed mottling similar to those induced by SMV. Disease transmission by mechanical inoculation of soybean and different host plants, serological tests.(indirect ELISA), transmission by aphids (Myzus persicae) and seeds, confirmed the occurrence of a new strain of SMT, designated as G5. In Brazil the soybean mosaic virus (SMV) is controlled mainly by the use of resistant cultivars. This information is helpful to those involved in soybean breeding programs.
