HIGH-FIELD MAGNETIZATION MEASUREMENTS OF SM2FE17, SM2FE17N3, SM2FE17D5, AND PR2FE17, PR2FE17N3

We report high magnetic field magnetization measurements of the ferromagnetic compounds Sm2Fe17, Sm2Fe17N3, SM2Fe17D5, and Pr2Fe17, Pr2Fe17N3 performed up to 200 kOe in continuous field. We present isothermal magnetization curves measured at 4.2 and 300 K on oriented powder samples. The M(H) curves show that the axial anisotropy fields obtained for the nitride are larger than those previously reported. The results are discussed in the light of neutron powder diffraction data. The magnetic anisotropy constants K1 and K2 have been determined, taking into account the angular distribution of the grain axis.
