THOMAS-FERMI-DIRAC MODEL OF NITROGEN MOLECULES IONIZED BY STRONG LASER FIELDS

摘要
The maximum electronic charge a molecule can retain when exposed to a static electric field is calculated as a function of internuclear separation. The tendency towards charge-asymmetric fragmentation is modified by introducing an oscillating laser field. This allows branching ratios into different fragmentation channels to be determined as a function of the laser intensity. The model predicts a preponderance of charge-symmetric fragmentation, a result which accords with experiments at 610 and 305 nm but which appears to disagree with data taken at 248 nm.
