Correlation Between Confocal Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy Measurements and Visual Field Indices in Patients with Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma

摘要
Purpose: To investigate the correlation between visual field (VF) global indices and optic nerve head (ONH) topographic parameters in patients. with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Material and Methods: Fiftyy-two eyes of 30 patients with POAG were studied in Glaucoma Unit of GATA Haydarpasa Training HospitaL The VF tests were performed by Humphrey perimeter and ONH topographic measurements by Heidelberg Retina Tomograph-II (HRT-II). The correlation between the VF indices [mean deviation (MD), corrected pattern standard deviation (CPSD)] and HRT-II parameters [disc area (DA), cup area (CA), rim area (RA), cup volume (CV), rim volume (RV), cup/disc area ratio (C/DA), linear cup/disc ratio (LC/D), mean cup depth (MCD), maximum cup depth (MxCD), cup shape measure (CSM), high variation contour (HVC), mean retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (MRNFLT) and RNFL cross sectional area (RNFLCSA)] were investigated. Spearman's correlation analysis and linear regression analysis were used in the statistical analysis. Results: There was a positive correlation between each one of VF indices and CA, RA, CV, RV, C/DA, LC/D, CSM, MRNFLT, RNFLCSA parameters by Spearman's correlation analysis (p<0.05), In order to investigate the diagnostic value of HRT-II, we compared the test parameters by linear regression analysis. We found that there was no statistically significant ONH topographic parameter correlating positively with MD and CPSD (p>0.05). But it can be considered that the most predictive parameters for OS and CPSD were DA, CA and RNFLCSA, MRNFLT respectively. Conclusion: The ONH and RNFL alterations occurs before the detection of VF defects in glaucoma, These findings increased the importance of ONH evaluation in glaucoma. There are various reports concluding different results about the correlation between VF indices and ONH topographic parameters.
