MASS-TRANSFER IN FIXED AND FLUIDIZED-BEDS

A study was previously presented of mass transfer in liquid fluidizedd beds of ion exchange resin particles in the range 2 less than equivalent to Re//s less than equivalent to 25 and the authors correlated the data very successfully. No accurate comparison of the correlation with fixed bed data was shown in the authors' previous work and this is now given. Studies were carried out with fixed beds under very careful experimental conditions. Extrapolation of the correlation to Re//s greater than equivalent to 25 shows a good fit of mass transfer data in fixed beds, and the correlation appears to be applicable in the range 2 less than equivalent to Re//s less than equivalent to 10**3.
