摘要：
America's position in the world economy is threatened by the failure of small manufacturers to make effective use of advanced information technologies. When these manufacturers incorporate newer technologies, a profound impact on the nature of work can be anticipated. The information community can make an important contribution to ongoing discussions in Congress, various agencies of the executive branch and in industry by presenting their thoughtful, professional opinions and insights and any facts or research findings they can bring to bear.
