摘要
In Venezuela, between 1983 and 1999, changes were identified in the country's development model, due to the entry into force of a new phase of the capitalist mode of production, known as neoliberal, manifesting itself socio-spatially in the city. Neoliberal policies favor the hyper-accumulation of capital in the hands of a few, depriving majorities of their vital rights. In these circumstances, gentrification becomes a strategy to extract, in the name of regeneration of the city, the surplus value of urban land, deepening socio-spatial inequalities. Hence, the objective of this article is to study the causes and particular effects of gentrification in Caracas at the end of the 20th century. For this, the work is structured in three parts: 1) towards a model of neoliberal urban management; 2) the commercialization of urban land and the social stratification of the formal city; 3) the recognition of the "barrios" and the densification of the informal city. Finally, gentrification as an urban practice accentuates socio-spatial asymmetry between the formal and informal city.
