INTRAUTERINE INSEMINATION, CERVICAL PREGNANCY AND SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT WITH METHOTREXATE

Cervical pregnancy is rare but one of the most dangerous of all pregnancy complications. The aetiology of cervical implantation is unclear and because of the fear of profuse haemorrhage abdominal hysterectomy has been historically considered the standard therapy. We report here an unusual case of an infertile woman with cervical ectopic pregnancy after ovulation induction with gonadotrophins and intrauterine insemination. The patient was successfully treated ,vith parenteral methotrexate without significant morbidity. It is concluded that chemotherapy should be initially considered in most cervical pregnancies either as the sole form of treatment or to improve the chances of success in alternative conservative measures.
