The laminar-turbulent transition in a bayonet tube is studied numerically with air as the fluid. Isotherms and turbulent intensity contours calculated from the k-epsilon model are used to describe and explain the hydrodynamic and thermal behaviour. Particular attention is paid to the onset and spread of turbulence.
