RESPONSE OF SPRING SUNFLOWER (HELIANTHUS-ANNUUS) TO NITROGEN APPLICATION AND SPACING

A field experiment was conducted during the spring seasons of 1988 and 1989 to study the effect of 4 levels of N (0, 30, 60 and 90 kg/ha) and 3 spacings (30 cm x 20 cm, 45 cm x 20 cm and 60 cm x 20 cm) on seed and oil yields of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) under mid-hill condition. Significant increase in yield attributes and yield (grain as well as oil) was obtained with increase in level of N up to 60 kg/ha. Plant spacing of 45 cm x 20 cm significantly increased the seed and oil yields compared with 60 cm x 20 cm and 30 cm x 20 cm spacings.
