ON THE MAGNETIC AND ELECTRIC-DIPOLE MOMENT PARAMETERS OF THE TAU-LEPTON

We consider the possibility of measuring the electric dipole moment parameter of the tau-lepton. We concentrate on the process e+ e- --> tau+ tau- and use the energy asymmetry in the pi- decay channel since it is uniquely sensitive to F3. We find that the optimal CM energy for an energy asymmetry measurement is 6 GeV. At square-root s = 10 GeV, the energy asymmetry could lead to a bound of 5 x 10(-3) on F3, given 10(6) tau+ tau- pairs. Using square-root s = 6 GeV and the same beam intensity, the bound is 4 x 10(-3). We also discuss the advantages of the measurement of the energy asymmetry over the measurement of the total cross-section.
