CALCULATION OF ELECTRON-IMPACT EXCITATION RATE COEFFICIENTS FOR THE N = 2 AND N = 3 TERMS IN NE-5+

Rate coefficients for electron impact excitation of the n = 2 terms and the five lowest n = 3 terms in Ne5+ have been calculated in a close-coupling approximation. The results are presented as effective collision strengths over the electron temperature range 5 X 10(4) K to 10(6) K. The results for the n = 2 rates are expected to be accurate to within 20% for temperatures less than 6 x 10(5) K, degrading to 30% for higher temperatures. For transitions up to the n = 3 terms, neglect of higher scattering channels will mean the rates are considerably less accurate.
