In accordance with the methodology described in [1] for designing data transmission circuits (DTC) organized on the basis of no more than three communications channels, for each actual method for organizing DTCs it is necessary to formulate a conditional schematic diagram for calculating reliability. On the basis of an analysis of reliability, through distinguishing situations which may be characterized as "failure" and "prefailure" DTC conditions (the terminology of [1]), formulas are generated for calculating indices of reliability. The way of implementing preventitive measures performed on the communications channels and hardware should be considered here, as well as the features of DTC servicing (for example, the algorithm for establishing reservation in a circuit with channel switching). Practice shows that such an individual approach to considering each DTC is inconvenient, because it leads to significant expenditures of time in formulation of a standard design method, its analysis and the generation of design formulas, and also requires appropriate qualifications from the person conducting specific operations. These inconveniences are reinforced to a significant degree during calculation of a four channel DTC, because the processes involved in analysis of a conditional diagram for calculating the reliability and generating design formulas are made significantly more complex.
