摘要：

The article deals with the history of the first translations into the Mari language of Christian religious texts made in the Vyatka diocese. The use of archival documents allows the author to establish the fact of execution of translations in Urzhum County. These unknown translations were done by the priest K. Ushnurski and deacon M. Popov in the village of Toral in 1803 by decree of the Vyatka spiritual Consistory. The surviving correspondence of the Nolinsk spiritual Board about the translations in the Urzhum district makes it possible to form a more complete general idea of the organization in the Vyatka diocese of the process of translating prayers and other religious texts into Mari and Udmurt languages, carried out on the basis of the decree of the Synod of January 22, 1803.
