After the basic processing characteristics of chalcone were examined, a high grade and high quality polishing technique confirmed for the chalcone properties has been established for use for a nonlinear optical crystal material in frequency convertor devices. A new ''bowl feed double side simultaneous polishing machine'' has been developed for use with this polishing technique. Through the combination of this polishing technique and the new machine, the chalcone substrate has obtained surface roughness of less than 40A R(max) on both sides, Moreover, the transmission efficiency of this chalcone substrate, when it was used in a frequency convertor device, was equal to a calculated theoretical value of 86%.
