ABSORPTION OF ANTIGENS FROM GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT

Guinea pigs were injected intradermally with rabbit anti-egg albumin and rabbit antidinitrophenyl antibodies. PCA reactions were consistently positive when these animals were fed high amounts of a small molecular weight bivalent hapten (α-ℰ-bis-DNP-l-lysine), but gave inconsistent positive results when relatively higher doses of egg albumin were used. Thus, it was concluded that the molecular size of the antigen is one of the important factors in absorption of antigens from the gastrointestinal tract. © 1968 S. Karger AG, Basel.
