A microprocessor-based closed-loop system has been developed for wind-driven self-excited induction generators using a controlled rectifier to maintain a constant dc load voltage with varying rotor speeds. The configuration and implementation of the control scheme have been fully described. Test results on a self-excited induction generator demonstrate the satisfactory performance of both the hardware and software of the control scheme and the utility of the setup as a whole. The steady-state analysis of the generator has been extended to include the controlled rectifier, and the performance characteristics have been predicted.
