Sexual dysfunctions of young men - embarrassing problem in general practitioner's practice

Background. Premature ejaculation and virility disturbances are the most common sexual dysfunctions in men under 30 years old. Objectives. The aim of the study was to assess sexual dysfunctions in the group of men younger than 30 years old. Material and methods. The study was performed on the group of 108 men with 26 point questionnaire concerning medical history and the quality of sexual activity. Results. 20% responders declared to have sexual dysfunctions, usually they reported the lack of erection or its incompleteness and premature ejaculation. 16.7% of responders declared to have morning erection rarer than 3 times a week and every fifth responder declared to have no morning erection. The rare morning erections correlated with sleep disturbances (44.4%) and with pain spinal dysfunctions (p < 0.05). Responders systematically taking drugs rarer had morning erections ( p < 0.05), had worse quality of erection (p < 0.05) and often declared premature ejaculation (p < 0.001). Cigarettes smokers declared problems concerning both premature (p < 0.05) and delayed ejaculation (p < 0.01). The older responder was the bigger subjective problem was premature ejaculation (p < 0.001). Conclusions. 1. Sexual dysfunction may concern 20% of men under the age of 30. 2. The presence of sexual dysfunctions has negative influence on their quality of life. 3. Life style may have influence on the quality of sexual activity. 4. Precise medical history assessment and informing about possibility of sexual dysfunctions occurrence may be helpful in treating these disturbances.
