HEALTH INDICATORS OF ELDERS ASSISTED BY THE COMUNITY HEALTH UNDER-GRADUATE NURSING PROGRAME OF A UNIVERSITY IN SAO BERNARDO DO CAMPO

Objective: To quantify and describe health indicators of the elderly population assisted by Community Health Program (PSC), based on their age, postprandial blood glucose, blood pressure levels, waist circumference, and body mass index. Method: Descriptive, comparative, transverse study with a quantitative approach, performed using medical records of 73 seniors in June 2009. The medical records of individuals from the age of 55 were considered as criteria for inclusion. Results: The majority of the assisted population was between 66 and 75 years old (45,21%/n=33), presenting, on average, appropriate blood glucose levels (54,79%/n=40), high blood pressure (42,47%/n=31), greater than the desirable waist circumference (71,23%/n=52) and obesity (68,50%/n=50). Conclusion: The health indicators showed the need for interventions to promote health and prevent complications from chronic diseases. The acquisition of healthy habits that encourage improvement in the quality of life of these individuals can be achieved through well-structured educational programs targeted to the population of this profile.
