Sociodemographic information on Information and Communication Systems for the design of public policy. The experience in the southern region of Ecuador

The knowledge of the structure and dynamics of the population, as well as its relationship with the economy, the environment and the territory, is the clue to inspire the policies of the national and local governments in order to achieve development, well-being and social stability. But the information produced by the State usually does not take account of the local communities or in not accurate. PYDLOS is an initiative of the Universidad de Cuenca to disseminate sociodemographic information in South Equator through local systems (ECUALOCAL, SIPA O CUENCA) that facilitates the communication amongst people and the exchange of information and experiences. These systems assist the local governments to plan according with the real characteristics of their inhabitants and territory.
