摘要
From the movie A passage to India I discuss the effects of the discourses that had produced the colonial process and made up the one colonized as the 'Other' to be civilized by Europe. In this direction the movie permits to analyze the identities construction under colonialism and, at the same time, rebuilds the genealogy of colonization discourse. I also point out the colonization effects on both colonized and colonizer. I make use of Mary Pratt's concept of Contact Zone, exploring the idea of colonization as mutual presence of cultures, its interactions and clashes. In Contact Zones both colonized and colonizer get asymmetrically mixed up, frighten themselves and get mutually confused. I intend to show that were (and are) the Europeans who get a lot more scared in Contact Zones than we - the rest of the world - do being under their domination. Finally, I defend the need of constructing another discourse moved by other kind of feeling, which takes in the differences and its ways of production. This maybe helps in the production of politics against the old and now-a-days kinds of domination and social exclusion.
