SCIENTIFIC LITERACY AND DEMOCRACY

Democracy is founded on the principle of citizen participation, and it is for this reason that Roger Cross links democracy with a socially responsible conception of scientific literacy. With only 1.5% of American high school students who express an interest in science and engineering fulfilling their interests by completing a science or engineering degree, he argues that a new approach to science education might also encourage more students to undertake science courses.
