摘要：

This paper studies the concept of vital necessity in Freud and Adorno. It shows the spectrum of significances of vital necessity in Freud, ranging from the constitutive moment in the beginning of the psychic apparatus to social deprivation. It then works out how Adorno, in his reception of Freud, critically turns the concept of vital necessity by demonstrating the social conditioning of the lack of adaptation and of the social coertion towards conformity.
