摘要
In the past few years, fire protection conditions in unit 1 of the Neckar Joint Nuclear Power Station (GKN) were recorded on the spot within the framework of the ''Fire Protection Program'' and evaluated in the light of current codes and regulations. The goals of protection were used as the underlying principle of assessment. The recommendations derived from the fire protection analyses have since been converted by the operator into notices of change step by step. The most expensive measure taken so far which was completed in 1994, was the installation of sprinkler systems at the +6.00 m and +10.00 m levels in the annulus of the reactor building. The decision in favor of sprinkler systems meant that proven technology was installed for the first time also in areas of a nuclear power plant where this had not been the case before. Expert consultants and the supervisory authority based their approval on the results of successful rests of sprinkler systems in fighting Sires in cable ducts, on the design of sprinkler systems on the basis of the VdS code, and on the demonstration of a functioning supply of water for fire fighting out of the demineralized-water system. The experience in GKN-1 will improve the acceptance of sprinkler systems in nuclear power plants in areas where this has not so far been the case, as well as in other plants and other areas.
