INFLUENCE OF COPPER(II) IONS ON THE KINETICS OF ASCORBIC-ACID OXIDATION BY METHYLENE-BLUE

摘要
A kinetic scheme for ascorbic acid oxidation by methylene blue in the presence of copper(II) ions is proposed on the basis of spectrophotometric investigation of this reaction and literature data. Introduction of copper(II) ions leads to an increase in the rate constant of the reaction due to the increasing concentration of ascorbic acid radicals. The inhibition of the process at low copper(II) concentrations can be explained, faking into account redox processes proceeding in the system, which involve oxygen species dissolved in water.
