TROPICAL CYCLONES

This paper describes how tropical cyclones are formed and the extent of the damage that they cause, likening them to earthquakes as one of the most devastating of all natural hazards. It examines progress made in the detection, monitoring and forecasting of cyclones and concludes that more attention should be paid to mitigating their effects, notably by improving early warning systems in less developed countries.
