摘要：
The extent to which multimedia data are available is steadily increasing. This is true for the Internet as well as for the data on a local PC or on a PDA. A major challenge in this respect is the search for media objects. The present article deals with fundamental concepts and issues of search for media objects and multimedia documents, and gives an overview of the approaches existing for the different media types.
