Surface properties of chemical pulps as well as the colloidal nature of solutions of cellulose and cellulose derivatives exert a strong influence on production, processing and application oi cellulose products. Introducing various functional groups is one way to modify and control these properties may be effectively. Within this context seven research papers presented at this years Cellulose Round Table are dealing with analytical aspects of characterization of colloidal states and interfacial properties, with selective derivatization, as well as with possible applications of specifically modified pulps.
