摘要
It has been suggested that patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) have higher homocysteine (Hcys) serum concentration. In this study, we demonstrated hyperhomocysteinemia in a group of 47 patients with T2DM from a first level Unit Care of Hermosillo, Sonora, and evidences of uncontrolled diabetes were found. The Hcys was measured by HPLC with fluorometric detection and markers of metabolic control were estimated by colorimetric methods (sialic acid (SA) by an enzymatic method, high sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP) by nephelometry, and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) by immunoaffinity). Hcys levels in patients (15.55 mmol/L, RI=11.6-18.8) were significantly higher (p<0.05)than those from a group of 17 adults without diabetes (11.2 mu mol/L, RI=10.9-12.3), matched by sex and age. An association between Hcys and LDL-chol or plasma creatinine clearance was only found in patients with T2DM. Also, high levels of HbA1c, glucose, triglycerides, total protein, CRP, SA, and creatinine were found, which suggested a state of uncontrolled diabetes and chronic inflammation. Further studies to estimate the value of Hcys as a risk factor for vascular complications in patients with T2DM is recommended.
