摘要
Many companies have installed LANs for internetworking between information systems. These LANs were mostly Ethernet (10 Mbit/s), but several high-speed (over 100 Mbit/s) LANs have been put into use recently. In particular, ATM-LANs are increasingly used for multimedia and other highspeed telecommunications. This paper describes the trend in high-speed LANs and the high-speed telecommunications on wide-area networks. It also describes 600-Mbit/s ATM-LAN technology by using the ATMR (ATM Ring) protocol and ATMR-HIPPI conversion technology for high-speed network computing using ATM-LANs.
