Spore former and non spore former bacteria causing soft rot of potato in Bangladesh

Bacterial soft rot diseases threaten production of potatoes during all phrases of plant growth and tuber storage. Generally erwinias and pseudomonads are considered as the causal agents of potato soft rot. But along with these non spore formers, spore forming Bacillus spp. have also been identified as the causal agents of potato soft rot by many investigators. Presence of Erwinia and Pseudomonas in healthy potato and potato field soils indicates that the organisms could survive both in tubers and in field soils.
