摘要
The aging and control of deterioration of water miscible metal working fluids due to the colonization and metabolization of microorganisms is of high relevance for the metal working industry. A wide range of bacteria and fungi species is able to use almost all available substances in metal working fluids as carbon or energy source. The present study describes deterioration effects caused by specific influences. Two metal working fluids have been analyzed, one mineral oil free product based on renewable resources and one conventional product based on fossil mineral oil. Metabolization strategies of the varying chemical compositions are discussed based on the development of the dynamic surface tension and the pH-value. The colonization of the conventional metal working fluid by microorganisms needed more time compared to the mineral oil free product, although both fluids were considerably colonized after five weeks. While the corrosion inhibiting properties were decreasing over tiame, a reduction of the performance in tribology tests could not be verified.
