Rigid and flexible PVC films were biaxially stretched to draw ratios of up to 2.4 x. The effect of stretching variables was investigated, and mechanical properties measured for a compound containing 30 phr plasticizer. Draw ratio was found to be the most significant variable affecting mechanical properties, the maximum draw ratio being produced at a draw temperature of 90-degrees-C. Property changes could be explained by planar orientation of the PVC molecules.
