Basic Concepts: Central Blood Pressure, Pulse Wave Reflections, and Pulse Wave Velocity

摘要：
Recently, we have learned to go beyond the measurement of blood pressure at the brachial artery. Modern methods have enabled us to quantify mechanisms under-lying increased blood pressure, i.e. premature and increased arterial wave reflections and higher arterial stiffness. This review introduces the most important of these novel measures. Their assessment to identify hypertension- related end organ damage has been encouraged in the recent guidelines of the European Society of Hypertension/European Society of Cardiology.
