THE ABSORPTIVE POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY-ION COLLISIONS AT INTERMEDIATE AND LOW-ENERGY

The aim of this paper is to give a comprehensive description of the evaluation of the absorptive potential in heavy-ion scattering from low to intermediate bombarding energies. It is shown how the energy dependence of the mean field combined with recoil effects gradually diminishes the absorption due to transfer and inelastic processes, and nucleon-nucleon scattering becomes dominating at high energies. The available data compare well with the calculations where a standard folding potential is used for the real part of the optical potential.
