Variation in the microflora of goat milk from three flocks in the Thessaloniki area was determined during one lactation. Total viable counts and counts of staphylococci/micrococci and streptococci increased greatly during May, June, and July. On the other hand, coliform and aerobic sporeformer counts increased during March and April. Milk samples taken aseptically had high bacterial counts, 25% having more than 1 x 10(3) cfu/ml. Differences in the main bacterial groups were observed among goats and among months throughout lactation.
