Investigations on the history of geography in Colombia in the mid-nineteenth century have concentrated in the figure of Agustin Codazzi and the Comision Corografica. The present article seeks to offer a wider horizon of geographical knowledge for the period between 1840 and 1865, through a balanced view of the production of geography and cartography in the indicated period. This view will permit the presentation of a thematic classification of the geographical production and to formulate the existence of a plurality of geographic interests in New Granada. Since the objective is to make on overall review of the production, the article will not enter into a deep analysis of the cited sources.
